2026 Branch Annual Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n

On April 15th<\/sup>, 53 members gathered at the Gordon Howe Sports Complex for our annual branch meeting.\u00a0 This year, we saw two board members retire from their positions \u2013 Glen Kovatch and Lorne Roslinski \u2013 and we are all very grateful for their commitment to our branch and wish them the very best in all future endeavours.\u00a0 We welcomed one new member to our board, Sateen Katarey and we are very glad to have him along!\u00a0 Although she was not in the room and in attendance through Zoom, the branch recognized Lorraine Guay with a five-year pin in celebration of her continued dedication to our branch.\u00a0 The branch board also recognized Arlene Heagy with a Best Friend of the Board certificate in appreciation for all the work she does throughout the year for our branch.\u00a0 Member participation in branch business is critical to good governance and the 2026 board wants to thank all the members who came out.<\/p>\n

June BBQ, June 11, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

About 80 people came together for the June BBQ, held again this year at the Shriners’ Club. \u00a0This location offers us the option to enjoy the beautiful river bank while keeping out of the forest fire smoke by eating inside. \u00a0Burgers, salads and soft drinks were enjoyed by all!
\nBranch Annual Members Meeting: \u00a0April 9, 2025\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The branch annual members meeting took place at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex with 73 people in attendance. \u00a0We are very happy to welcome four new board members \u00a0\u2014 Doug Curliss, Scott McMillan, Caroline Melis and Cathy Stocki \u2014 and three returning board members \u2014 Shawna Murphy, Myrene Molison and Lorne Roslinski \u2014 \u00a0onto the board! Member participation in the Association and Branch’s business is critical to good governance and the board would like to thank everyone who came out!
\nFebruary Luncheon Feb. 6, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

About 65 members and guests gathered at Smiley’s Buffet Restaurant to hear from Jason Schmiedge, an audiologist from Hearing Life. Jason’s presentation was very well received and provided attendees with a lot of information about hearing health (it\u2019s so much more than hearing aids!) and the benefits Hearing Life provides to Federal Retirees. \u00a0Some lucky members received gift cards to McNally Robinson as door prizes and we all enjoyed seeing dear friends and making new ones.

\nFall supper Oct. 23, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wow! Nearly 120 people came out to the Western Development Museum for our annual fall supper! We had exhibits by preferred partners, an update on what the branch advocacy committee has been up to in the lead up to the Saskatchewan 2024 provincial election, a branch update, and our keynote speaker was Association President Roy Goodall.<\/p>\n

Great food, amazing friends, good information and door prizes! It doesn’t get any better than that.<\/p>\n

Saskatchewan Provincial Election Town Hall \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

On September 16th, the Saskatoon & Area Branch and the Saskatoon Council on Aging co-hosted a Saskatchewan Provincial Election Town Hall at Saskatoon’s Western Development Museum. \u00a0This event was attended by about 200 people who heard from five of the seven registered political parties about issues of importance to older adults and retirees in Saskatchewan. Each party had five minutes to present it’s party’s overall platform, then each party was asked the same three questions and given three minutes to reply. \u00a0Congratulations go out to the Saskatoon & Area Branch Advocacy Committee volunteers for their terrific work on making this event a success. \u00a0They are Barb Biddle, Cheryl Erlandson, Christine Haynes, Shawna Murphy and Darlene Scott. \u00a0The Town Hall is available On Demand thanks to Rogers TV at the following link Saskatchewan Provincial Election Town Hall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

September Corn Boil<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sept. 11 corn boil was attended by about 76 people. The weather wasn’t the best, so we moved our event inside at the Shriners’ on Saskatchewan Crescent. It was an excellent opportunity to get in touch with old friends, make some new ones and enjoy.<\/p>\n

June BBQ<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over 100 people came out for the June BBQ on June 12th. As the weather was quite blustery, we moved the party inside at the Shriners\u2019 Club and enjoyed our burgers, salads, soft drinks and ice cream in climate controlled comfort! Thanks to everyone who came out – so much fun!<\/p>\n

April 10, 2024 annual members meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over 60 people came out to the Annual Members’ Meeting at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex. \u00a0A big thank you to those who participated – member participation in governance is critical to a volunteer organization such as ours. \u00a0We are pleased to announce that Joanne Lalonde Veld has joined the board as the new secretary and we have welcomed Reg and Loretta Reiter back as branch directors.
\nFebruary 2024 luncheon<\/strong><\/p>\n

What a turnout! \u00a0119 people gathered at Smiley’s on February 7th for fellowship and to listen to Detective Sergeant Hal Lam of the Economic Crime Unit of the Saskatoon Police Service deliver an excellent presentation on how to avoid scams and frauds.<\/p>\n

60th anniversary celebration<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than 90 people came out on Nov. 18 as the Saskatoon & Area Branch celebrated the Association\u2019s 60th anniversary! We laughed and were amazed by the comedy and magic of Double Vision, enjoyed delicious cold & hot appetizers and great wine and chocolate door prizes were given away.<\/p>\n

Nearly 100 people (what?!?!?) came together at the Shriners\u2019 club for our annual corn boil! Perfect weather, amazing riverbank location, good friends and sweet corn\u2026. It just doesn\u2019t get any better!<\/p>\n

68 of us gathered on a very warm prairie afternoon on June 7 for our annual Spring BBQ! Our branch president, Myrene Mollison, also acknowledged the RCMP\u2019s 150th anniversary and thanked the retired mounties in attendance for their service.<\/p>\n

Sept. 14, 2022 Recruitment Corn Boil<\/strong><\/p>\n

2022 was a long, beautiful summer and even though the weather was unseasonably cool on September 14th, over 60 Saskatoon & Area Members gathered at Floral Acres at noon for a corn boil – complete with cold cuts, buns, salads, fruit, coffee and soft drinks.\u00a0 We socialized, caught up with one another, recruited a couple new members and a few lucky people walked away with some door prizes!<\/p>\n

June 15 2022 Barbeque Lunch<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rain held off and a great time was had by all!<\/p>\n

Over 70 federal retirees and guests gathered at the Floral Community Centre for burgers, hot dogs, salads, cookies and bevies – and more importantly – some long overdue socializing.<\/p>\n
