As well, we advocate for seniors issues in Alberta. We are also contributing to community initiatives by volunteering our time and resources.<\/li>\n<li>We hold three general membership meetings\u00a0per year, in\u00a0<strong>May (Annual Membership Meeting)<\/strong>, <strong>September<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>December<\/strong>\u00a0in an effort to foster a close relationship with those who matter most \u2013 our members.<\/li>\n<li>Become a member by visiting the link to the national office\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nafr.dev.sparkadvocacy.dev\/membership\/\" data-entity-type=\"external\">how to become a member\u00a0page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Edmonton Branch By-Law<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Edmonton Branch operates under a set of bylaws approved by the membership.\u00a0Download a\u00a0PDF copy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalretirees.ca\/en\/media\/469\/download\" data-entity-type=\"external\">Edmonton Branch Bylaws<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Committees<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Five active volunteer\u00a0committees make up the work together to\u00a0provide services to the membership. They are:\u00a0<strong>Membership, Social, Communications, Telephone,\u00a0and\u00a0Member Services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We always need volunteers to work on\u00a0committees. If you are interested in joining one of the committees, please contact one of our board members, <a href=\"https:\/\/nafr.dev.sparkadvocacy.dev\/branch\/edmonton\/branch-executive-board-of-directors-area-representatives\/\" data-entity-type=\"external\">listed elsewhere on this web page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Membership<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This functions of this committee includes developing\u00a0and maintaining branch and national office records of branch membership, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist members with questions regarding registration<\/li>\n<li>Recording\u00a0changes of address, phone numbers, email addresses, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Advise National Office of\u00a0transfers and deaths of members,<\/li>\n<li>Developing and maintain a level of knowledge amongst committee members that will allow them to respond appropriately to inquiries from branch members on matters related to membership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This committee meets at the call of the chair or at the request of two or more\u00a0members<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Social<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This committee is responsible for organizing all aspect of our general membership meetings, including the venue, the meal, the guest speaker(s) and anything that happens outside of the formal part of the meeting. It also ensures that an appropriate number of volunteers are available to carry out functions needed at each meeting, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Greeting members as they arrive, ensuring they are registered at the door, pay their meal fee, if appropriate, and receive a door prize ticket,<\/li>\n<li>Greeting special guests and guest speakers, introducing them to the meeting chair, if appropriate, and directing or escorting them to their reserved seating,<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that any member who needs it, has assistance getting their buffet meal,<\/li>\n<li>Selling 50 \/ 50 tickets and ensuring the draw is made,<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that the door prize draws are made,<\/li>\n<li>Ensures that \u201cthank you\u201d presentations are made to guests\/guest speakers, when appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>This committee meets at the call of the chair or at the request of two or more\u00a0members.<\/li>\n<li>This committee is also responsible for arranging a \u201cthank you\u201d event for all volunteers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Communications<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This committee is responsible for developing and maintaining this website as well as implementing and maintaining an email system for communicating with branch members.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, this includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing a presence on the internet, including, but not limited to, a website and a Facebook page. This includes the layout and content as well as any rules and or policies that are deemed appropriate to govern the materials and information displayed as well as the use of any of the electronic media developed.<\/li>\n<li>Developing and managing the use of an email system to allow the branch to communicate with those of its\u00a0members who provide us with their email address.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This committee meets at the call of the chair or at the request of two or more board members.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Telephone<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This function of this committee include maintaining a telephone and email contact list of members in the greater Edmonton area who have indicated that they would like to receive a phone call or email prior to our general membership meetings. (Selecting email as your method of contact is strongly recommended as this greatly reduces the time required to make contact.)<\/p>\n<p>This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Informing members by phone or email of upcoming events and general membership meetings,<\/li>\n<li>Developing\u00a0and maintaining a list of volunteer telephoners,<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining a list of members who have requested a phone call or email reminder of general membership meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Dividing the list into sub-lists for each volunteer telephoner.<\/li>\n<li>Distributing the sub-lists to the telephoners with details of the specific information to be communicated on each call and including a deadline for reporting those who will attend.<\/li>\n<li>Sending an email notice to all members who have asked to be notified by email.<\/li>\n<li>Following up as needed to ensure we have an accurate count for meals to be ordered as well as members attending the business portion of the meeting only,<\/li>\n<li>Relaying the attendance and meals required information to the Social Committee on a timely basis.<\/li>\n<li>Providing updated information on address or other changes for member records to the Membership Committee.<\/li>\n<li>This committee meets\u00a0at the call of the chair or at the request of two or more\u00a0members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: 003767;\">Member Services Committee<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Your Member Services Committee member can assist you with inquiries about the Public Service Health Care Plan\u00a0(PSHCP),\u00a0the Pensioners Dental Insurance Plan (PDSP),\u00a0Medoc Travel Insurance and similar inquiries.<\/p>\n<p>Topics can include\u00a0Positive Enrollment in PSHCP, and for both PSHCP and PDSP questions regarding\u00a0coverage, claims and appeals. It can also include\u00a0enquiries about Medoc Travel Insurance.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend that you first try to discuss your questions\u00a0with Sun Life (1-888-757-7427) for both PSHCP and PDSP or\u00a0the Johnson Insurance Edmonton office 780-413-6536 or 1-877-989-2600. If you would like our assistance, contact us at\u00a0<strong>780-413-4687<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>1-855-FSNA\u00a0 EDM (1-855-376-2336)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This committee is responsible for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing and maintaining a level of knowledge amongst committee members that will allow them to respond appropriately to inquiries from branch members on matters related to the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP), the Pensioners Dental Care Plan (PDSP) and the Medoc Travel Insurance Plan. Responses are to provide information, but not advice.<\/li>\n<li>Individual members\u00a0take one month turns being responsible for responding to inquiries received from branch members. The committee chair is responsible for preparing a schedule, however individual members are responsible for arranging coverage for any periods during their \u201cshift\u201d, when they will not be available.<\/li>\n<li>The chair of the committee carries out the role, or designates a committee member to carry out the role of health benefits officer (HBO), as described by the national Federal Retirees organization.<\/li>\n<li>This committee meets at the call of the chair or at the request of two or more board members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"title\">Call for Volunteers<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"lead\"><strong>Attention all Federal Retirees Edmonton Branch members<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is an opportunity for you to participate in the success of the Edmonton Branch as a volunteer phoner. Phoners help the branch keep in touch with members who do not have internet or email. This adds to our overall attendance and participation.<\/p>\n<p>Duties of the volunteers are to phone a list of members who do not have computers to advise them of upcoming meetings and events. As a volunteer phoner, prior to a planned event, you will be provided with the message to be delivered along with a list of names and phone numbers. As you complete your calls, you will record who are planning to attend and any questions not answered in the material provided to you. You would relay this information back to coordinator by a specific date to help determine the number of meals to be ordered.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to become a volunteer phoner, or to learn more about it, please contact Edmonton Branch by phone at 780-413-4687 or 1-855-376-2336\u00a0and leave a message. Or email us at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:edmonton@federalretirees.ca\">edmonton@federalretirees.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Being a volunteer phoner is a great way to get involved with the organization, or to get acquainted or reacquainted with the members and former colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer Board Members:<\/p>\n<p>We are always interested in finding branch members who may be interested in becoming board or committee members. There are many different types of opportunities to become involved in our social activity planning, or our advocacy team, to mention just two opportunities. Individuals who are interested usually attend a board meeting or two or three, to observe, ask questions and offer comments or suggestions. If they are interested in joining, the existing members will meet \u201cin camera\u201d and vote on accepting them as a member.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"title\">Membership<\/h2>\n<p><strong><span class=\"lead\">Membership area supported by Edmonton Branch<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The National Association of Federal Retirees, Edmonton Branch covers a large area in Alberta plus all of the Northwest Territories. The members of the Lakeland Branch recently came under the support management of the Edmonton Branch.
